Dr. Simon Roe’s made-for-a-postcard Illini moment happened 34 years ago. But he remembers the sight like it happened last week.
“I was doing a surgery in one of the operating rooms at the College of Veterinary Medicine,” recalls Roe (MS ’85, veterinary surgery residency program), an N.C. State professor of small animal orthopaedic surgery.
“The room has windows that allowed us to see outside. While we did the surgery, an ice storm hit. We watched a large icicle form — it ended up being four feet long and about five inches across.”
