It wasn’t just the mouth-watering fish sandwiches that made the DeLuxe a must-stop every Friday in the mid-'80s for Beth Bicknese.
"It was a nice mix of locals and college students and a nice place to play pool," says the senior veterinarian at the San Diego Zoo.
"As a starving student, it was food for the body and soul. I went to one of my reunions and we went to the DeLuxe to play pool and it turned out to be the last month they were open.
"I was glad I got one more look before it was gone."
