Chinonye Nnakwe

Molecular biologist | National Science Foundation | Class of 2000

Not really the bar-hopping type, Chinonye Nnakwe spent many a late night in the Illini Union's famed Vending Room.

"While my friends were attending parties upstairs, I worked with study groups and prepared for organic chemistry and biochemistry exams there," says Nnakwe (Class of 2000), who has the CV to show for her efforts — the molecular biologist has been a program officer with the National Science Foundation since September 2017.

"It was one of the few places where I could meet with friends across campus. I had many happy times there.”
