A word to the wise from a recent alumna to campus newcomers looking for a warm, welcoming place to hang out:

For Catherine Yee’s money, you can’t beat the University YMCA on South Wright Street.

“I joined a student group of the Y — Students for Environmental Concerns — my freshman year and soon found out that the YMCA was a place that I would go to when I was looking for some comfort, friends or good food,” says the Citgo program coordinator (BS ’17, Earth, Society, Environmental Sustainability).

“Walking into the Y, anyone is met with kind faces and a warmth you usually only find at home. All of the different spaces and old chairs, along with the Y Thai, make the University YMCA a great place to study, grow and learn.

“Everyone who works at the Y has become a special part of my life and allowed me to figure out my path while rooting me on along the way. I highly recommend spending an afternoon at the Y to anyone looking for a new place to land.”
