As a scents go, that “sweet, musty old-book smell” of the library Stacks is one Mark Mathewson ('84) never tired of.
"Somehow, I wrangled a private carrel there when I was a law student. It was a great place to escape the intensity of 504 East Pennsylvania Avenue," says Mathewson, now the Illinois State Bar Association's Springfield-based assistant executive director in charge of communications.
"I credit it for what little sanity I had left after law school."
