Blair Sheppard

Dean emeritus | Duke School of Business | Class of 1980

Long before he was dean of the business school that checks in at No. 11 in U.S. News & World Report’s most recent annual rankings, Blair Sheppard was a regular at a certain Green Street establishment.

“Once a week or so, we would frequent Murphy’s Pub,” says the dean emeritus of Duke’s Fuqua School of Business, who earned his Ph.D. in social organizational psychology from the UI in 1980.

Murphy’s was “a friendly place to discuss ideas, complain about how flat central Illinois was or play pinball — much needed after long days and nights in the lab and in the office.

“I met my wife of 38 years there, so it’s the most special place of anywhere to me.”
