Most of Christine McDaniel’s C-U travels had one spot in common.
“Going back and forth between Espresso Royale in Urbana and the Japan House, Espresso Royale and the library, Espresso Royale and wherever,” says the senior economist at the renowned D.C. law firm, Sidley Austin.
"I don’t even think I really liked coffee but I liked the scene and it was a good break while studying economics or Japanese Kanji,” says McDaniel, who in 1993 earned dual bachelor’s degrees — one in economics, one in Japanese studies.
“The architecture across the campus had beauty and grace. It was inspiring. I also remember extremely early mornings when it was snowing, quiet, so early it was still dark, on my way to the bakery to make cinnamon rolls.”
