Erin Concors checked in from Europe, where the 1996 UI grad (BS journalism/Russian) is based as a consular officer for the State Department.
Her favorite campus haunts: Gregory Hall (“where I downed countless cups of vending machine coffee while pounding out mock news stories and learning editing techniques”), the foreign language building (“where I spent unforgettable hours glued to the Russian nightly news broadcast in the lobby”) and anywhere her dad took her as a kid.
“Becoming an Illini was my childhood dream, from my first visits around age seven to the Alma Mater and Altgeld Hall with my father, taking home a souvenir notebook and pencils from Follett’s bookstore. My academic career at the U of I laid a solid foundation for my future career,” which has taken her to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Russia and Ukraine.
