Nora Wang

Senior engineer | Pacific NW Nat’l Lab | Class of 2009

For Nora Wang, the Illini Union isn’t just the place she met Mr. Right.

“It’s a wonderful place to meet new friends, discuss work with classmates, study alone or just relax and look out of the window,” says the senior engineer at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, who earned her bachelor’s in China (Tianjin University), her master’s in Singapore (National University) and her Ph.D at the UI (architecture, 2009), where she also was chief architect of Illinois entry in the 2007 Solar Decathlon competition.

“I had so many memories in that warm, vibrant, classic place. Actually, I met my future husband there. The Illini Union will stay in my memory forever.

“I hope the coffee house is still there. I still remember the taste of its ginger tea, my favorite drink in winter on campus. I have not found any ginger drink that beats that.”
