Jo Major earned not one, not two but three electrical engineering degrees from the UI.
But the future Bay Area CEO’s Illini experience extended well beyond the engineering campus.
“I have always loved music and got to play in the UIUC jazz band under John Garvey,” says Major, whose degrees came in 1985, ’86 and ’90. “This band got to play at Krannert, and that is the first large stage I ever played.
“Also, way back in the day, I walked through the tunnels underneath the university. That is probably a huge no-no now, but they were incredible, linking up to the basements of many buildings where you could see very, very old equipment, furniture and books — like looking back in time at labs from the past.”
