We say Illinois, Troy Strader says ... Beckman Institute, where he was lucky enough to land an office while working toward his information systems Ph.D. in the mid-'90s.

“It’s a beautiful research facility and I was fortunate to be able to work in the artificial intelligence research group from 1993-1997,” says Strader, now the Aliber distinguished professor of information systems at Drake University’s College of Business and Public Administration.

“The group included some very accomplished faculty and several friends who were doctoral students in computer science.

“I remember testing the original Web browser software, Mosaic. At the time, it didn’t seem like a big deal, but looking back we can recognize this as a key technology behind the growth in electronic commerce and all of the things we do online over the past 25 years.”
