Vince Poor’s happy place is the math library in Altgeld Hall.
“When I was at the U of I, it was before the Web was invented, and research involved physical contact with books and journals,” says the former UI professor, who was elected to both the National Academy of Science and National Academy of Engineering.
“That library was a beautiful space for that — open and light with classic wooden tables and a very scholarly air — a perfect place for immersing oneself deeply into a research question for hours.”
