Vivian Zapata

Visual artist | Teaches at Governors State | Class of 2008

She hasn’t been back for a bit but Vivian Zapata can still picture the place where she took her first giant leap toward a career as an artist.

“I remember spending a lot of time in the sculpture and painting studios as an undergraduate art student,” says Zapata, whose very first solo exhibition — “Visions of Poetry” — was held at the UI’s La Casa Cultural Latina in 2008.

“The location of these studios might have changed since I graduated. They used to be located across from Art and Design Building

“It was great having the time and space to produce creative work. These years provided the foundation for my development as an artist as I received excellent guidance from my professors and classmates.”
