The late, great Green Street eatery is where the Cal law professor and his bride “used to go all the time for the great fish sandwiches, bean soup and chili. The fish sandwiches were especially good.
"It was a bit seedy but one of the few places near campus that wasn’t jammed with students. We got to know the waitress and cook pretty well there, and they also seemed to have been there forever.
“We hung out there enough that the waitress gave us free beers when she found out we’d just gotten married. The last time we went in there, on a return trip to town, we heard that the cook had been wounded in a robbery, and the time after that, the place was gone.”
