Guillermo Santana

Structural engineering professor | University of Costa Rica | Class of 1981

Home the past 31 years has been Costa Rica. “But I’ll always have warm feelings for the Champaign-Urbana community,” says dual-degree civil engineering grad Guillermo Santana.

“Professors (Mete) Sozen, (William) Hall, Robinson, (Robert) Eubanks and (Narbey) Khachaturian at the CE department were excellent teachers that helped me grow in the field of structural engineering.

“I spent most of my time north of Green Street in the engineering campus — except during the summer, when I played soccer with the rest of the international graduate students in the different pitches available to us in the hot summer months.

“My wife and I lived in the married student housing known as Orchard Downs, where we made many friends.

“It has been a long time since I had the privilege of studying and living in a U.S. university campus so prestigious.”
