His diploma may say Boston University but few former Illini spent more time on campus than Urbana-raised, Uni High-educated WILL alum Jeremy Hobson, who headed east after three semesters at the UI.
When the Boston-based co-host of NPR’s ‘Here and Now’ thinks about places and spaces he misses most back home, he always goes back to the same spot.
“Since I was a kid, and while I was at the University of Illinois, I loved St. Mary’s Road between Lincoln Avenue and Fourth Street,” says the son of famed pianist Ian Hobson, formerly a member of the UI School of Music faculty and now at Florida State.
“I’d take walks there at night. It is on a hill so it’s one of the only places in town where you can get a bird’s eye view. When I visit, I almost always take a walk to that spot. It hasn’t changed a bit.”
