Joan Cetera (’97) arrived at The Daily Illini’s old First and Green offices in the fall of 1993, hoping to land a writing job.
She got that — and a whole lot more.
Twenty years later, Frito-Lay’s Plano, Texas-based senior director of PR remembers it being was a haul from Allen Hall, “where I was busy honing my craft of being a music and theater ‘nerd’ — really just hanging out with the actual music and theater majors.
“I went there freshman year and signed up to write pop-culture reviews for the Diversions section. I went on to work there through senior year, covering campus and city life, learning copy-editing skills and finishing as a news-feature editor.
“But the most important part of the DI was that it was there I met my husband, former Daily Illini editor-in-chief Mike Cetera."
