What had all the makings of a horrifyng memory turned into a happy one for future Ohio State provost Joe Alutto (Class of '65).
“I remember seeing my first tornado, one that touched down just outside Champaign-Urbana," he says. "A few days after, some of us drove out to see the damage done to a couple of farms.
"In talking to residents looking over the damage, I was struck by the acceptance of what had happened and the understanding that ‘we rebuild and go on.’ That always remained with me as the heart of Midwestern values.”
