Kevin Warwick

Artificial intelligence pioneer | Former Beckman fellow

If not for the UI, Kevin Warwick might not go on to become one of the world's foremost authorities on articificial intelligence.

"I became aware of neural culturing work that was going on at the time in the Beckman Institute. So I met the staff involved, including Bruce Wheeler, who was at UIUC at the time.

"I took those ideas with me to the UK, where I was able to obtain a Research Council grant and do similar culturing, although we then gave the brain cells a robot body."
