Anytime Safiya Noble needed a lift In her pursuit of a pair of post-grad degrees, she knew exactly where to turn on campus to find it.

“She was my number one champion,” says Noble, the co-founder of UCLA’s Center for Critical Internet Inquiry.

“She helped turn around negative experiences and always helped me brainstorm around obstacles.

“I am forever grateful for the strength she put into me, and her steadfast belief in my work.”

Now an associate professor at UCLA, Noble was honored by her alma mater twice in 2020, being named the recipient of both the iSchool Distinguished Alumna Award and the UI Alumni Association’s inaugural Diversity and Inclusion Award, for her dedication to “bringing more students of color, women and African-Americans into the field” of library and information science.
