This Illini memory is dedicated to that corner of campus that’s churned out one A-list alum after another.
“I’d like to take some time to honor the location of University High School,” Nate Summers says from Washington state. “Not only did I attend the University of Illinois as an undergrad; I had the great fortune to attend University High School before that.
“Uni High has exceptional teachers, many of whom are U of I faculty and/or have master’s and Ph.D.s in education from the U of I to provide an unbelievable education for high school students.
“Big shouts out to Mr. B and Dr. Stone, two of my favorite and most inspiring teachers. They were a huge influence and were part of what inspired me to make nature and survival skills my career choice.
“My first book — ‘Primal: Why We Long to Be Wild and Free’ — is coming out in October 2019 from Falcon Press.”
