“The favorite campus spot for so many of us UIUC alums was on Wright Street, just south of Green. Conveniently located near the engineering campus, and just across the street from Altgeld Hall, Garcia’s was a favorite haunt for hungry students for many years, whether you wanted delicious pizza-by-the-slice, or a just pitcher of cold draft beer," says Baer, 1983 grad and General Dynamics senior electrical engineer.
"On my first visit back to campus in the fall of 1984 following my graduation in January 1984, I met up there with my fellow HELHS Class of ’76 alums who were still on campus, working on their graduate degrees — Don York (MS, math '86), and David Watson (JD '86).”
