As far as Sheila Burns is concerned, she had the best seat in the house on fall football Saturdays.
“My favorite memory is my time spent participating in Block I,” says the managing director of Austin-based Building 12 Communications.
A group from my dorm, Trelease Hall, looked forward to game days. We would dress in orange and blue, march down to Memorial Stadium, get our cards and dutifully follow the instructions. We made numerous words and pictures with our cards while cheering on the Fighting Illini.
“I was biochemistry major, and spent a lot of time in the labs. Those Saturday games provided a fun outlet and precious camaraderie with my Trelease family. I learned how to balance study time with play time, a skill that serves me today as managing director of my biotechnology marketing firm.
“Game day became my reward for studying during the week.”
