The place: Illinois’ shiny, new track stadium.
The occasion: the 1990 Big Ten Track and Field Championships.
The time: a “beautiful spring day,” as Aaron Mobarak remembers it.
"As I warmed up for my event, the triple jump, I realized this was the Illinois moment I had always imagined. The sun was shining, music was blasting through the sound system, 11 Big Ten track teams filled the facility, I had just finished junior year final exams, and I was physically and mentally ready to jump farther than I had ever jumped before," says the former Big Ten outdoor triple jump champion, now president of a Chicago-based investment firm.
"At that moment, everything felt right. I knew I was exactly where I was meant to be."
