You name it, Eysha Powers did it at the 76-year-old hub of campus.
“I’m sure that I’m not alone in recalling the Illini Union when I think back on the U of I,” says Powers (’03), who’ll soon celebrate 14 years at IBM, where she’s a senior software engineer of enterprise cryptography.
“I remember walking with my floormates in the WIMSE program all the way from Florida Avenue Residence hall to the Illini Union for bowling my first week on campus.
“I remember studying in the little study room on the eastern side of the building for my biochemistry exams.
“I also remember attending the career fair at the Illini Union on the day of 9/11. On that day, there was less discussion of careers and more concern for family and friends in New York.”
