Animal lover that she is, Kelly Levenda (’08) came to the UI intent on becoming a veterinarian.
She left four years — and umpteen trips to the Animal Science Laboratory — later with even bigger plans.
“After learning about the treatment of farmed animals — in my classes at the Animal Science building and my hands-on work at the U of I farms — I decided to pursue a legal degree to protect animals,” says Levenda, whose undergraduate research included an animal behavior project at the Champaign County Humane Society.
“I studied animal law at Lewis & Clark Law School, and am now an attorney at the Animal Legal Defense Fund and the founder of Let Fish Live.”
