He spent 12 years as an Illinois trustee, four and change as assistant secretary of the U.S. Army and what seemed like an eternity preparing for life after law school in the UI college’s library.
But occasionally, even Tom Lamont made time for a little fun on his way to earning a JD from the UI.
"It's hard to ignore the one spot where I spent so much time — the Law Library. A more enjoyable and perhaps equally memorable place was a bar located just off Green Street, past where Follett's is," he says. "I can’t remember the name and it's no longer there, but it was very popular in its day.
"My memories of that place are a bit more fond."
