Bob Holmes

Hydrodynamics chief | U.S. Geological Survey | Class of 2003

Bob Holmes left C-U in 2003 with much more than a Ph.D. in civil and environmental engineering.

“I showed up in 1994 to work on a Ph.D. with a wife and two small daughters in tow and stayed well after my Ph.D. was completed, gaining an additional two daughters, giving us four by the time we left," says the St. Louis-based hydrodynamics chief for the U.S. Geological Survey.

"So, my family and I have many fond memories as we thoroughly enjoyed the years we spent in C-U both during my Ph.D. work and afterward, while working for the U.S. Geological Survey.

"It is hard to find one thing that stands out but home football games would have to be one of the biggest.   Experiencing big-time college football and the atmosphere surrounding was, and is, amazing, particularly for someone who was from a small Illinois town.

"There are many memorable games, including some that were near-miss losses, such as the 1994 loss to Penn State, ranked Number 1 in the country at the time.”
