As picturesque campus views go, it was tough to top the one Glenn Howatt had in the early '80s.
“I was fortunate enough to share an office in Davenport Hall with a view of the Quad. I was a grad student in geography. The view provided insight into the diversity of campus life," says the Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter for the Minneapolis Star Tribune, who earned master's degrees from the UI in urban geography and journalism.
“It was also a place of gathering. When John Lennon was assassinated, some were drawn to the Quad spontaneously.”
