Before she was one of the world’s leading experts in the field of cardiovascular tissue engineering, 2019 UI alumni achievement award winner and Yale Professor Laura Niklason frequented three places on campus:
1. “I spent a lot of time in the basement at Bubby and Zadie’s, the bohemian tea/coffee house right downtown. I had my whole coffeehouse-guitar-socialist experience there."
2. “I ate ice cream from Baskin-Robbins. Like, every single day. I swear that I kept the place afloat, single-handedly."
3. And last but not least, says the 1983 physics and biophysics grad, “I spent a lot of time in Loomis Labs, doing problem sets until the wee hours with friends from my physics classes.”
