Susan RoAne

Best-selling author | ‘How to Work A Room’ | Class of 1967

Before she became Susan RoAne, renowned author, she went by a less-flattering moniker in one corner of campus.

Gutter Ball Girl.

“When I signed up for an 8 a.m. bowling class at the Illini Union as my PE requirement, I thought it was a brilliant choice,” says the business networking keynote speaker, bestselling author of “How To Work A Room” and 1967 UI grad.

“Joke’s on me. I was the Gutter Ball Girl and almost flunked the course. I met lovely students who were from different parts of the state and country who were kind enough to let me have do-over turns so I didn’t get an F.

“My D in bowling has stuck with me decades later.”
