Before he landed his first job with 'sustainability' in the title, Tom Abram got his green on at 515 East Gregory Drive.
“The Business Instructional Facility was built after I graduated but while I was an employee at the University of Illinois,” says San Diego State’s assistant director for campus sustainability (BS ’05, electrical engineering).
“It was our first green building — certified at LEED Platinum, the highest level.
“I remember walking in the atrium and feeling the incredible radiance of the daylight pouring through the windows. I remember walking on the green roofs, viewing the solar panels across the building.
“I still use examples from that project in my current career. BIF set the bar for many of the sustainability efforts going forward.”
