In 2016, the good people of the 81st district elected David Olsen to his first term in the Illinois state legislature.
It wasn’t, however, the first time Olsen won over voters. That also happened a few years earlier, when the finance/management major was elected student body president at Illinois.
“For me, the most memorable place was the year I spent in the student body president’s office at the Illini Union. The Union is a focal point on campus and frequently was a meeting place for me — whether with friends, classmates or visitors to campus.
"But is also has a more historic feel, with its wood-paneled walls and photos of alumni of years past. And during the 2010-11 term I spent as student body president, I was fortunate to have an office on the second floor of that wonderful building. Its window looked over the iconic main Quad, and adjoined the student organization offices which dominated the floor.
"And like the building itself, it combined both a reverence for our campus history with the new energy students always bring to the building throughout the generations. It was a place where I spent countless hours, and where I discovered my love for serving others through government."
