As enviable views go, it’d be tough to top the vantage point Robert David had at Memorial Stadium in the early ’80s.
Who cares if the football wasn’t exactly championship caliber?
“I called card stunts for the Block I as head of Block I,” says David, who graduated with honors with a bachelor’s in business in 1981 and now serves as director of corporate education at Cal-Berkeley.
“I would always arrive a few hours before game time to make sure everything was set up properly. My microphone was adjacent to the visiting team’s bench between the 40-yard and 50-yard lines on the east side of the stadium.
“It was a great vantage point to watch the game, too.”
